Malinda Turvey
(07/06/1980 – 03/25/1999)

Malinda Turvey is one of the 7 teenage magazine sales crew members who died in a vehicular accident in Janesville. Wisconsin. The teenagers were on board a crew van owned by Y.E.S, a magazine sales company based in Oklahoma. The fatal accident happened barely 2 days when Malinda left home to work as a magazine agent. The van, without license plates, crashed when the driver was trying to switch seats with another person while the vehicle was speeding at approximately 81 miles per hour. It was later found out that the driver, Choan Lane, was driving with a suspended license.

Turvey’s father, Phil Ellenbecker, is an activist who has been working for more than 2 decades exposing the crimes and abuses within the magazine sales industry. On April 2009, a legislation regulating door-t0-door magazine sales crews – the Malinda’s Act – was passed in Wisconsin.
