Former Agent Stories

JA

Well here's the story.

I was walking to my house and was approached by a kid who said "you look pretty sharp want a job?" At the time I was newly unemployed and figured I ask more he showed me the pamphlet of what he was selling and laid it all out he said ok well my manager is on the next block so we walked over and I met him. He seemed decent so I said I’d do it.

Next it was nothing but hell for real I stuck with it and the manager offered me to be a p.a. aka personal assistant keep records and such at 20 a day cuz I sucked at selling shot people don't want I guess I did all I could handled paying for the rooms driving setting up headquarters so to speak the meetings kinda reminded you of a pep rally id go to malls and try to recruit new people and became the dd for my manager.

Well one night we were doing the usual routine and someone decided it would be good to get tripped out so everyone did we were in new York and later in that night my manager flipped out on me so I  had a friend come in which i had to drive like an hour to get and then back he left that night I dipped out about a week later didn't know anyone and had nothing but my clothes and ten bucks.

While i waited for a ride from a friend I just met like two days before I put in an application at two places and got a call back that day. I scraped up the money I could and stayed in a hotel for like two weeks and worked every day but as we all know hotels are not cheap so I ended up staying on the streets awake for days at a time on my grizzy.  I got my family to send me some savings bonds got pared when they came in and then left for WV now in with my wife and kids and happy but we need public education about this stuff.

So , hi. I was on mag crew just here recently, gotta say there sure do seem to be alot of horror stories, but when i first answered the ad i had no clue what id be doing, but along the way i was never harmed or threatened. I had a little fun at first but thats how these things work, they suck you in because youre young and love the instant gratification of money daily ( even tho its a rip off) and travelling. Just, if i had one thing to say to someone still on mag crew, itd be look out for yourself it may seem like funa nd games but those people are honestly taking advantage of you. its damn near slavery, its not right, its fun but just not right. thats the internal battle im having right now, i only quit last month and im starting to really consider joining another crew again, but then i remember....how horrible it was and how towards the end i honestly didnt even want anyone to buy a mag, i started feeling like shit for smooth talking people...idk thanks for listening i guess, there just arent many options for poor street kids besides crew.

I WAS IN PHOENIX AZ AT THE TIME WHEN I WAS APROACHED BY A MAN.  HE HAD CAME UP TO ME AND TOLD ME THAT I WAS BEAUTIFUL AND THAT I COULD MAKE A LOT OF MONEY WORKING FOR THEM SELLING MAGAZINES. THEY TOLD ME THAT I WOULD HAVE ALL KINDS OF MONEY AND THAT I WOULD BE VERY WELL TAKEN CARE OF SO I JOINED THEM.

AFTER A WEEK I STARTED DATING ONE OF THE MAIN GUYS. SO WE GO TO CALIFORNIA AND IF I DIDNT MAKE ENOUGH MONEY OR SELLS WE WERNT ALLOWED TO EAT. I LOST 50 POUNDS IN 3 MONTHS WORKING WITH THEM. SO 3 MONTHS LATER I FOUND OUT I WAS PREGNANT WITH MY BOYFRIENDS BABY. WELL I WENT TO GO TELL HIM AND HIM AND HIS FRIEND GRABED ME DRAGED ME INTO THE HOTEL ROOM AS HIS FRIEND HELD ME DOWN. MY BOYFRIEND TRIED TO PUY A WIRE HANGER INSIDE ME TRIEING TO ABORT ME WHEN THE GIRL FRIEND OF THE OTHER GUY CAME IN I JUMPED UP AND RAN. THEY GRABED ME THROUGH ME IN A CAR AND DROPED ME OFF ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IN SANDIEGO. IT WAS POORING RAIN I HAD NO SHOES AND NO MONEY THEY TRIED TO KILL ME CAUSE I HAD GOT PREGNANT. I ENDED BACK IN AZ AND I HAD A BEAUTIFUL BABY BOY BUT I AM SOOO SCREWED UP FROM WHAT THEY DID TO ME I WILL NEVER FORGET THAT NIGHT. I REMEMBER THEY WOULD MAKE THE GIRLS SELL THE PEOPLE AT THE DOOR FOR SEX... THERE WAS THIS ONE GIRL THAT WAS 16 YEARS OLD.... NOW WHEN MY SON GROWS UP AND ASKS ABOUT HIM WHAT AM I EXPOSED TO TELL HIM.... I AM NOW MARRIED AND WORKING THROUGH THIS DOING COUNCILING I JUST KNOW THAT THERE ARE KIDS OUT THERE BEING RAPED AND HURT CAUSE OF THESE PEOPLE AND WE NEED TO PUT A STOP TO ALL THIS....

im in NC now and safe in a marine town

story: i started in texas, they said there would be a four week training period, there was and it was easy they paid for everything and said the sales i made during training would be put on my books but when i got out there was nothing on them. they took all of it supposedly for travel and rent. and when i came out of it i was making sales but with a .5 commission working 10 hours a day 60 hours a week sometimes 70. we got one 30 minute break and we had to rush around to eat sometimes not eating at all. then we were forced to work in the elements, they told us " were like the mail man we work rain sleet or snow." and they didnt lie i worked days when i thought id die from the heat or freezing to the point my toes were numb or walking around all day with horrible sunburns begging the "joneses" for water it was torture. i had a off duty cop point a gun at my head in tennessee. the job was horrific and i dont suggest it for anyone

I was a 19 year old kid with low self esteem. I fell for the hook.

I was an honest kid, but I learned to lie. So much that it still affects me till this day.

I got out, went to college, and have had some great success. However it had nothing to do with mag grew. It did not make me stronger, teach me life lessons. It did however cause me a great deal of pain.

I became a surgical technologist, then a writer, now I run a successful business. However, my heart aches for the children that are sucked in, and for the parents that fight that battle.

I did meet some good kids. I also understand the need to break free, be independent.

All I can say is that we all come from different walks of life, but there is nothing positive that comes from this lifestyle.

It is fascinating I will give you that. I love the history of this country. The classic door to door sales guy is part of Americana. However taking advantage of the children that make millions those who pull the strings is nothing short of barbaric.

I love you all, you young maggies. So I tell you this. Try to find another way. I know at times you may feel this is as good as it gets. For some, it is sad to say it may be true. But remember, you are valuable. You are human. You can DO IT!
